Like the remarkable fusion of blues-based rock and calypso/soca rhythms that provides its signature sound, BARTHOLOMEW is a unique combination of personalities and talent. Headquartered in West Central Illinois, BARTHOLOMEW brings together one of Trinidad's most accomplished artists with a group of young, gifted, and consummately trained musicians to create a compelling new band that defies traditional expectations.
Characterized by the deeply complex and driving rhythms made possible only by virtue of the group's three percussionists, BARTHOLOMEW's distinctive style shines brightly in the band's many original compositions. Products of Adrian's creative genius, the novel arrangement and voicing of BARTHOLOMEW's songs reflect both the broad musical range and immense talent of all of the group's members. From a funk-flavored bass line juxtaposed against the pealing rhythms of traditional calypso "iron" in "Back of the Rain," to the frenetic tempo changes and country-tinged violin of the show-stopper "G.E.M.," BARTHOLOMEW's tunes reveal a range of emotive expression and melodic allure only rarely encountered even among today's best musicians.
The band's musical artistry also brings new vibrancy and dynamism to both "classic" and modern rock standards. From their rasta-inspired versions of Stone Temple Pilots' "Interstate Love Song" and Bob Dylan's "Like a Rolling Stone" to rhythmically inventive takes on Radiohead's "Creep" and Sublime's "What I Got," BARTHOLOMEW is re-introducing audiences across the United States to yesterday's sounds by infusing them with a new, world music approach that rediscovers and reinvigorates energies latent in the original compositions.
